LOL nah??? making education a competition is so fucking important for careers bc it separates the best of the best from everyone else?? what’s fucked up is more so the fact that education is stressed as the end all be all qualifier for the work force like people think that only the smartest kids in school will be the most successful when in reality there are a HUGE variety of careers people can find success and fortune in that don’t have their foundation in a formal education? competitive education is important but the stress we put on it is what’s wrong
Respectfully disagree. Education should be about competition with one’s self, but not with other people. Everyone has different circumstances and strengths, and should be always self critical to find ones weaker points and make them strong, but it’s no use comparing yourself to someone who isn’t disabled or is in school in their native language or learns fast or has the same learning style as the teacher.
No yeah I totally understand that the idea of academic ranking is quite literally very one dimensional. I have friends from my school that tell me that they didn’t even have class rankings at their high schools. I’m definitely not lauding the whole #1 #2 #3 formal class ranking concept, I guess coming from a field where the brightest minds are only bound for success has my views a little skewed. I definitely think students shouldn’t have the pressure to be the best at everything, but should rather find their own passions and strengths. But yeah like high school ranking is a lot more useless than college ranking, which I definitely support more because this education is specialized and leads you into a career and your ranking isn’t just for the sake of being ranked but instead offers sort of a quantified assessment of your capabilities for the job you’re pursuing
